    Welcome to the Veterinary Dentistry Package!

    This package consists of the following module(s):

    This package is a product of the Center for Educational Technologies of Texas A&M University. At the center, we specialize in harnessing the power of technology to create innovative learning resources that support veterinary teaching.     • Meet the Authors

      Bert Dodd, DVM, Dip. AVDC, Fellow AVD
      Johnathon Robert (Bert) Dodd, DVM, Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry & Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College, received his DVM from Texas A&M University in 1979.  He speaks at both national veterinary meetings, local, and veterinary technician meetings.  He is involved in multiple national and local committees and memberships, and was honored as the 2004 Academy of Veterinary Dentistry “Fellow of the Year”.  He is extremely passionate towards advancing the level of dental care and providing practitioners practical and easily implemented procedures to utilize in everyday practice.

      Randi Brannan, DVM, Dip. AVDC, Fellow AVD
      Dr. Randi Brannan received her doctor of veterinary medicine degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC), a charter Fellow and past president of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry (AVD), and a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS). Dr. Brannan lectures internationally on all topics of animal dentistry and conducts in-clinic seminars and workshops. She joined the Zoetis Veterinary Specialty Team (formerly Pfizer Animal Health) in October 2011. 

      Paul Q. Mitchell, DVM, Dip. AVDC 
      Dr. Mitchell graduated with his DVM from Michigan State University in 1991. He worked in mixed animal and small animal private practice for five years before starting a residency in veterinary dentistry with Dr. Robert Wiggs at the Dallas Dental Service Animal Clinic. He became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College in 1999 and has served as the chair of the AVDC exam committee. He is the author of Small Animal Dentistry; Butterworth-Heinemann, 2002 and has spoken nationally and internationally. He has worked for Veterinary Centers of America in their specialty referral hospital in Boston and as their national veterinary dental educator for seven years, giving numerous lectures and wet labs on veterinary dentistry. He joined Pfizer Animal Health / Zoetis’ Veterinary Specialty Team in 2006.


      • Canine Dental Extractions

        Welcome to the Canine Dental Extractions Module! 


        At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

        • Identify the primary indications for tooth extraction
        • Recognize the equipment needed to perform dental extractions
        • Explain the technique to extract maxillary and mandibular canine and carnassial teeth
        • List the possible complications associated with tooth extraction
        • Identify the proper post-operative patient management and legal considerations to extraction
        This course should take you around 60 minutes to complete.

      • Feline Dental Extractions

        Welcome to the Feline Dental Extractions Module! 


        At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

        • Identify the primary indications for tooth extraction
        • Recognize the equipment needed to perform dental extractions
        • Explain the technique to extract maxillary and mandibular canine and cheek teeth
        • List the possible complications associated with tooth extraction
        • Identify the proper post-operative patient management and legal considerations to extraction
        This course should take you around 60 minutes to complete.

      • Dental Nerve Blocks

        Welcome to the Dental Nerve Blocks Module! 


        At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

        • Create a generic local anesthetic plan (type and amount of anesthetic, and when to administer)
        • Select an appropriate block site for a patient
        This course should take you around 60 minutes to complete.

      • Case Study: Indy

        Welcome to the Case Study: Indy


        At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

        • Determine the extent of dental disease based on physical exam and intraoral radiographs
        • Select an appropriate treatment for a tooth
        This course should take you around 60 minutes to complete.

      • Case Study: Sadie

        Welcome to the Case Study: Sadie Module! 


        At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

        • Stage periodontal disease based on oral exam, probing and intraoral radiographs
        • Select a treatment for a tooth based on its stage of periodontal disease
        • Create a home treatment plan for a patient with a healthy mouth or with dental disease
