    • Meet the Authors

      Audrey Cook, BVM&S, MRCVS, MSc Vet Ed, DACVIM, DECVIM, DABVP (Feline)
      Audrey Cook graduated with Distinction from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1989. The following year, she completed an Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and then spent three years at the University of California at Davis College of Veterinary Medicine as a Resident in Small Animal Internal Medicine. In 1994, she passed the examinations and completed the requirements to become a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. In 1996, she achieved Diplomate status in the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. From 1997 to 2007, Audrey Cook owned a specialty referral practice in Newport News, Virginia, before joining the faculty at Texas A&M.

      Jessica Hokamp, DVM, PhD, Dip. ACVP (Clinical Pathology)

      Dr. Jessica Hokamp, a Texas native, earned her DVM from Texas A&M University in 2008. She completed a residency in veterinary clinical pathology and received board certification in clinical pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2012, as well as her PhD at Texas A&M University in the field of canine chronic kidney disease with a research fellowship funded by Morris Animal Foundation and Zoetis. She also has a background in avian and exotic animal medicine and has a special interest in avian and exotic hematology, chemistry, and cytology.

      • Evaluating Blood Smears

        Welcome to the Blood Smears and Erythrocyte Morphology Module! 


        At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

        • Recognize how to properly prepare a peripheral blood smear
        • Identify artifacts of blood smears
        • Differentiate agglutination from rouleaux
        • Identify the erythrocyte morphologies seen with a regenerative response
        • Recognize common erythrocyte abnormalities on a blood smear
        • Recognize erythrocyte parasites on a blood smear
        This course should take you around 60 minutes to complete.
