Client Communication: Heartworms

Client communication has been shown to be a core professional/clinical skill for veterinary medicine. Forming a strong veterinarian-client-patient relationship and building rapport with clients are part of the foundation of practicing good medicine. Studies have shown that forming a partner-based (collaborative) relationship with clients increases client and physician satisfaction, improves patient health, and decreases malpractice claims.

Building an effective relationship with your clients starts with developing core communication skills: open-ended questions, reflective listening, empathy, and non-verbal communication, among others.
